The FrecciaRosa Project is the national cancer prevention initiative that brings health on board Italian trains every year in October. Founded in 2010 as a collaboration between Fondazione IncontraDonna and Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, with the patronage of the Ministry of Health and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, FrecciaRosa aims to spread the culture of prevention and promote healthy lifestyles, encouraging citizens to undergo essential health checks.
The project stems from the experience and commitment of Fondazione IncontraDonna, a non-profit organisation committed to the prevention of breast cancer and support for cancer patients, and from the desire of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane to offer a service of social value, capable of reaching millions of people every year.
Thanks to this union, prevention becomes a journey accessible to all: on board Frecciarossa, Intercity and Regional trains, passengers can receive free cancer prevention consultations, informative material and, on some occasions, even breast examinations and ultrasound scans.
From its first journey in 2010 to the present day, FrecciaRosa has expanded its reach, involving all Italian regions, including the islands, and introducing new activities:
The objective is simple yet of fundamental importance: to bring prevention closer to the people. Fear, lack of time or inattention often lead to neglecting medical checks. FrecciaRosa wants to bridge this gap by offering concrete opportunities to take care of one's health in an easy, free and accessible way.
The FrecciaRosa 2025 project is supported by a prestigious set of institutions and organisations that reinforce its value and impact.
Furthermore, in 2025, the initiative received the Medal of the President of the Republic, testifying to the high institutional recognition for its high social value. What is more, with their patronage and support, the Ministry of Health, Sport and Health, Agenas, Farmindustria and AIOM - Italian Association of Medical Oncology also contribute to spreading the culture of prevention and promoting health as a collective good.
However, all this would not be possible without the involvement of numerous professionals: oncologists, breast specialists, surgeons, gynaecologists, psycho-oncologists and university researchers.
Thanks to these synergies, including with supporters with a non-conditional contribution, FrecciaRosa continues to travel under the banner of a shared commitment to a more aware and well-being-conscious society.
